How to "Flat Palm"
By Walt Noon
I don't as a rule put effects up on the web that require you to buy anything from me or any other vendor, but this effect is an exception. If you want to do the effect, but don't want to purchase a "PK coin" to do the effect with, write me and I'll gladly tell you how to make your own PK coin.
For those who want a ready made PK coin (which costs no more than making your own), you can order one for approximately $20.00 by writing roddy@juno.com There are MANY additional psychic effects like coin levitation and roll over, compass moving etc. that can be performed with a PK coin!
This is not only a stunt that drives other magicians crazy (which I love to do) but, it's a killer stunt for laymen as well! (One of the strongest I do on stage!)
Flat Palming
I was told that a REALLY good coin magician can "flat palm" a coin off a table. To do this, you need to be able to set a coin on the table, place your hand over it, and pick it up in the palm of your hand without curling your hand unnaturally. I keep HEARING about magicians that can do this, but so far, I've never seen one. (And don't write me telling me it's true. I gotta see it with my own eyes!)
Well, since I want people to at least THINK I'm a good magician, I've found a way to cheat (as usual) and now you and I can "flat palm" with the best of 'em! But, don't let 'em in on the secret, and you and I can go down as the legendary magicians of this "skill" move!
Begin with a PK coin and a cheap ring (made out of anything magnetic.)
The method should be obvious, you set down the PK coin on the table, pretend to flat palm the coin, and the coin sticks to the ring under your hand.
Since your hand covers what's going on, and no one suspects a coin could be magnetic, you're a miracle worker again as you lift your hand and the coin from the table claiming you have "flat palmed" the coin into position!
Note: If your ring is not magnetic, you could also slip a tiny rare earth magnet (available at Radio Shack) under the band to attract the coin.
Other spin offs might include a coin appearance: A perfectly flat hand is brought down on a table, rubs the surface, and a coin appears. Or even a disappearance in which you set a coin in a box, remove your hand (with the coin secretly clinging to the underside of your hand), close the box, do some mumbo jumbo over the box (while you pocket the coin) and have the box opened to reveal the coin has vanished!
